What are you here for?

Everyday we are constantly making decisions. Some are big life changing decisions, others are smaller that effect our bigger picture (goals) we have down the road. Some of these we make consciously and some subconsciously all in mind with our goals. That is at least what we should be basing our decisions on all the time if are not already. So what does it have to do with fitness? Well let me explain...

I would have to say 95% or more of the exercise and fitness community these days which includes those cardio bunnies, spin Nazis, the weekend warriors, those people at Curves, and the usuals you see all the time at your local gym spending hours and hours hitting the weights and never getting the results they want. What do all these people have in common? No defined goal or purpose in the gym.

I will be the first to admit my love/hate relationship for the gym. I can not explain how much I love health and fitness and where I would be without it and how it has changed my life. But I want my workouts done and over with as fast as possible. Yes even when you hear me all excited about a new workout I want to try I can not wait til I get it done and over with at the same time. Two reasons why I feel this way...

1- At the end of my workouts I am one step closer to my goals.

When you train for a purpose with an end result in mind, even though our end results are constantly changing keep some goal in mind. When you are training no matter what it is when you plan out your workouts and hit the gym keep it in mind. You are there for one reason and one reason only to train and get one step closer to that goal by the end of your session. When you do this you do not have to be stuck at the gym for 45, 60 or even 90 minutes. If you are training how you should be with purpose you get in, get it done and your out. All this can be done in no more than 45-60 minutes and thats stretching it unless your a professional trained athlete and that is most likely not you that is about 1% of the fitness population. So that is your first step to keep in mind train with purpose keep your goals in mind and hit it hard, which brings me to my next point.

2- Train hard!

If you are training with purpose and doing what you need to be doing to make your time effective and get closer to your goals and you are not training hard? Then why are you training? It is counter productive to train with purpose but do not train hard or vise versa. Do be effective you can not have one over the other they both are key components to training. So yeah I can not wait to get my workouts done because I am training hard with a purpose. Why waste your time coming into the gym and only doing 50% of would you could be doing for that goal? So what do you do? You come into the gym, playground, wherever you workout at and you get there with that goal in mind and you light a fire up under your ass and you train as hard as you can!

This is where those 95% of people fail in the gym never reaching their goals or taking 10x the amount of time to get there. So just remember keep your goals in mind when you are training and you train hard like your life depends on it. If not then ask yourself do you want to be part of the 95% or part of the 5% that reach their goals no matter what? Now get out there and train with purpose!
